Lifeguard/instructor
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Aquatic Programs Coordinator, lifeguards are responsible for the continual monitoring of the area of the pool assigned to them. In their role as instructors, they are responsible for the safety, management, and teaching of participants enrolled in the courses they teach.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Continually monitor their area of the pool
- Prevent incidents by interacting with the public
- Enforce current health and safety regulations
- Conduct rescue and first aid activities
- Educate the public about safe behaviour in an around water
- Check, set up, and put away pool equipment and materials
- Participate in service training
- Perform administrative tasks (attendance sheets, daily reports, registrations, lesson plans)
- Carry out any other related tasks
- Teach swimming
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Grade 10
- Minimum age of 15 years on first day of work
Certifications
- Valid national lifeguard certificate, Bronze Cross or equivalent
- Standard First Aid CPR-C & AED course
- Swimming instructor certificate (Lifesaving Society)
Experience
- Experience considered an asset

- Fluency in written and spoken English and French
- Ability to work under pressure, independently, as part of a team, and without ongoing supervision
- Customer-service focus
- Ability to interact easily with people
- Strong organizational skills, sense of initiative, and sound judgment
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Energetic personality, professional attitude, and helpful demeanor
